The Brief
Following the appearance of several large cracks to the corner of the retaining wall and sinking of the steps on the inside of the wall, a full geotechnical investigation was carried out by The John Grimes Partnership a firm of Civil, Structural and Geotechnical consulting engineers. The report concluded wall
movement and sinkage of the steps was due to pressure from the saturated or settlement of the fill materials behind the wall.
The Solution
Joints were renewed by raking out the existing joints material and leave clean. Prime surfaces and insertion of Polythene Foam backing strips followed by application of and tooling of polysulphide sealant. The concrete repairs to side walls was carried out using traditional concrete repair methods. Smaller defects repaired with concrete repairs mortar and larger defects using a polymer modified repair concrete.
