Prince of Wales Pier, Falmouth

Project: Falmouth Pier
Client: Carrick District Council
Main contractor: Symons Construction
Work involved: Concrete Repairs
Date: February 2008

The Brief

Years of exposure to the marine environment had caused serious deterioration to these concrete beams and columns. Large areas of spalling concrete with steel reinforcement exposed and cracking was evident throughout the structure.

The Solution

Due to cost implications and budget restrictions, a long term plan was developed where 2 bays were renovated each year over a five year plan.

Removal of deteriorated concrete, cleaning and/or replacement of reinforcement steel bars and repairing or re-casting of concrete sections was carried out.
