The Brief
We were contacted by, Diocese of Plymouth, to have a look at the entrance canopy to St Margaret Mary’s Church in Plymstock, Plymouth. The canopy had various areas of spalling which have occurred due to the Asphalt Roofing leaking over a period of time.
The Solution
Due to the ingress of water from the leaking roof, the asphalt and mineral felt coatings needed to be removed, the deck power washed to remove any contaminates and debris. Then once dry a fluid applied roof coating of Decothane SP was applied to the roof. This 3 coat system incorporates the use of a Reemat Premium Glass Fibre Reinforcement matting and gives a fully seamless roof coating when completed. Once satisfied that the leaking had stopped, the spalled areas were repaired. These areas were broken out, the steel reinforcement cleaned and treated to preserve and then repaired with a repair mortar. Once all repairs were completed and cured a levelling mortar, Monolevel 844SP was applied, this then gives an additional layer of protection to the underside of the canopy.
