The Brief
South West Concrete Repairs Ltd were contracted to carry out strengthening and re-pointing of the sea wall as part the main contract awarded to Birse Civils. The whole works included rebuilding of the pier, new roads, new promenade and various other open features along the seafront.
The Solution
South West Concrete Repairs Ltd works entailed removing the limestone coping stones, core drilling down through the centre of the wall (depths between 700mm and 3m) inserting vertical steel reinforcement bars, tying to new horizontal steel bars laid in a purpose cut channel on the top of the wall, filling all voids with high flow cementitious grout and refitting/replacing the coping stones. Grinding out and re-pointing to the faces of the walls etc.
